Early Education and Childcare
The Early Education and Childcare course at National 4 and National 5 level is designed for students who have an interest in any aspect of working with children. The course aims to develop the learner’s engagement and understanding of working in the early years and childcare sector including nursery settings, primary teaching and local community groups.
The course is comprised of four units:
• Working in Early Education and Childcare
• Child Development and Health
• Play in Early Education and Childcare
• Parenting and/or First Aid
Students looking to further their study in this area can progress to further qualifications e.g.
• Courses in Care at Higher
• National Certificate in Early Education and Childcare (Higher)
• Scottish Vocational Qualification in Childcare
Learners who have found this course valuable have progressed into employment in areas such as:
• Early Years Officer/Practitioner
• Care Work
• Support Worker
• Social Work
• Primary teaching
