June Newsletter June 2006
Dear Parent/Carer
Chairperson's introduction
This Newsletter is to provide information on some of the important issues discussed at School Board meetings and to introduce new School Board members. The School Board through its activities and newsletters aims to:
- foster good communication between parents and the school and
- encourage parental involvement in their children's education
- We welcome communication from parents/carers about education and school matters including the issues outlined in the newsletter, so we can contribute to delivering, effective education for our young people.
If you need to contact the School Board please either write c/o Graeme High School or by e-mail to graemehighschool@falkirk.gov.uk
The school board is now made up of the following members:
Allister Perston - Chairperson Alan Harris - Vice-Chairperson Tony Matchett - Treasurer Carole Christie - Parent Member Ken Donald - Parent Member Liz Rankine - Parent Member William Thomson - Rector Ian McLean - Staff Member Grace MacDonald - Co-opted Member Natalie Finlayson - Co-opted Pupil Member
As you will see, the board now includes a pupil representative and we are delighted to welcome Natalie in that capacity.
Transport Safety aboard school buses is of utmost importance, we would remind all parents and carers of their responsibilities to ensure their children observe the following simple safety rules.
- No standing passengers
- No smoking
- One pupil per seat
- No rubbish to be left behind
- Enter and leave the bus in an orderly manner
A number of concerns regarding school transport have already been brought to our attention and we would encourage you to ask your children to let you know of any issues regarding driving standards, roadworthiness & cleanliness. Anyone who has concerns or is aware of problems with school transport should contact the bus/taxi operator in the first instance with details of the problem, bus/taxi journey, time and date. If this does not prove satisfactory the matter should be referred to Falkirk Council's Transport Planning Unit for further investigation. The School Board would also appreciate if you would inform us at the same time of any incidents so that we can monitor and take action over school transport problems where appropriate. Please contact Liz Rankine through the school office or by e-mail liz.rankine@falkirk.gov.uk
Study Leave Policy As you will be aware, Falkirk Council made the decision that all S4 pupils were required to attend school during the SQA exam period. Graeme High School offered supported study to all S4 pupils during the exam period to give the children opportunities to have support from subject teachers prior to their exams. The Board would like to take the views of the parents and children in S4 to the Council and would therefore ask for any comments to be sent to the Board, via the school office. As this decision could affect the children who will be entering S4 after the summer break comments from those parents and children involved would be welcomed.
